So, does this mean he's sold his 1st gen CLK Black?
What ever became of his parking-structure shenanigans when the service-soon message appeared?

Man he's gotten soft!

Since AMG got all quiet? What?

or hes gotten older and wiser. Dreams of a countach only last so long!

the turbocharged AMG's are much quieter.

I feared so, but I bet they still sound better than anything Audi and BMW has to offer.

I'd say it's more like he's gotten older and more brittle.
I love that in the lead picture he's sitting in a GT86.

WHAT THE FUCK JEZZA! but great car.

Just to let you know in a previous issue he said we was getting a Bentley and before that a Volvo and before that a Jaguar. So next issue, I reckon a Lexus.

I don't know about that. All the biturbo V8's sound pretty darn good, though muted.
Personally I still love the wail of the RS5 the most.

I know the Countach would be terrible as a DD. But if I was that rich hopefully I would still want to drive uncomfortable cars every now and then no matter how old I was!
You could DD the M4 but drive the batshit stuff on the weekends :)

The man's getting old. Comfort is starting to matter more. I once had a conversation with an avid motorcyclist friend who is a considerable amount older than me, about his next bike. He had been riding sport bikes almost exclusively for the past 15 years. He said "I'll probably get a Goldwing next". I laughed, and said "that's an old man's bike!"
His reply? "I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm an old man now. "

Definitely. Im too big of a guy to fit in most fast toys, so i end up lusting for fast grand tourers like the S65 AMG and the Bentley Brooklands. YUMYUMYUM

I too enjoy all of those things. As much as I like basic and older cars now I bet I'll be wanting effortless power, a nice seat and a good stereo at his age.

Am I the only person who is young and likes the M4. Seriously? Is rock hard driving style the only acceptable ride for anyone under 30.
![]() 07/14/2014 at 16:31 |

Is this really surprising? He loved the E90 M3 as well, and he loves the F10 M5.

Audis sound nice, sometimes equally good as AMGs, but I can't love a car that has 60% of its weight on the front axle.

Which has %0 to do with what we are talking about: sound.

Harry Metcalfe drove 1200 miles in 24 hours in his Countach once.
The dude's my hero.

Nothing, it is just the whole package that makes me really like a car. A PT Cruiser could have the best interior I can imagine, and it still wouldn't win me over with those looks.

no you aren't. A stiff ride isn't a bad thing as long as its sorted out.

Well the good news for you is that the sports cars keep getting better and better for bigger guys!
A lot of them used to be a joke if you were above 5'8" tall. Not anymore.
The 911 was always decent for bigger people (I guess because Germans are bigger than Italians on average). And the 911 keeps adding more cabin space and headroom.
The Italians finally got it and are improving their cabins. The 360/F430 were a big step up from the 348/F355. And the 458 has more headroom than the 360/F430 did.
I think sports car makers finally realized that they can't maximize their profits if bigger guys with money can't drive their cars...

Imagine being their test driver/dummy!
You could lap their cars around the test track and comment on the performance and comfort.
Dream job...

Ehhhh....
3 problems with the M4.
1.) The name. Really? BMW? REALLY? I'm always going to immediately think the 4-series is the one with 4 doors, even though i know better. Talk about unintuitive.
2.) Fake engine noise. This is like all those spoilers you see on Camry's and Accords. The low ones that do nothing except get in the way of your rear vision and cause drag. Only this is for your ears. And instead of being all "Hey everyone look at how fast my car is with my spoiler (but secretly i know its not that fast)" this is all "Hey me, listen to how fast my car sounds (but secretly i know my car doesnt sound like that)" It's like stuffing your underpants to make your dick look big but then making sure that nobody besides you see's you in your underwear.
3.) "And while i still admire Ferrari, I can't actually put my hand up and say i'd have one. Not since May did"
Excellent point Jeremy. Here's how I feel: And while I still admire BMW, I can't actually put my hand up and say I'd have one. Not since that a-hole in the M3 i saw the other day tried to murder those pedestrians. No, the other A-hole in the M3. No, you're thinking of a different a-hole in an M3, the other guy. With the glasses and hot girlfriend. No, the other one. Goddamnit.
Still. I wouldn't begrudge anyone for having one. It's almost there, but those three things bother me A TON. The fact that i'd still almost have one says a lot about how great that car is.

I drove a 360...if it wasn't a Spyder I would not have fit.
The 997 was comfortable enough, but the Cayman was too small. The second gen Cayman is far more accommodating for my 6'4" frame.

id just be happy sitting in their new models for lengths of time. smelling the lovely leather. touching the buttons. you know, like at a car show
![]() 07/14/2014 at 18:00 |
|
Did the 360 have power seats?
The power seats sit too damn high in the Ferraris. When you lower the seat as low as it will go you're higher from the floor than you'd like to be.
I'm 6' and when I sit in an F430 with power Daytona seats I feel too tall for the car, but only because I can't get the seat as low as I'd like to. The 997 seems to have more headroom than the F430 and I can get the seat lower as well so it's a lot better overall.
The second gen Cayman does seem to have a bigger cabin than the first. The first gen car is a bit small.

I don't think I could handle sitting in a 458 Speciale. I'd try to steal it.
![]() 07/14/2014 at 18:05 |

I don't remember doing any seat adjustments. I probably slid it back as far as I could go.
In the first gen Cayman if I slide the seat back to have adequate legroom, the seatback is pushed forward by the firewall into a very uncomfortable and nearly vertical position.
![]() 07/14/2014 at 18:08 |
|
That doesn't sound fun in the first gen Cayman.
My guess is that most redesigned models will be better. Car companies are stretching wheelbases and reducing overhangs. Makes it easier to create a bigger cabin even if the length of the car didn't go up much.

i recently drove a new Cayman S and felt relatively comfortable.

I've yet to drive the new one. Really want to though.

saying that all V8 Biturbo engines are inherently muted is a myth.. note McLaren 12C and Noble M600.
Merc/BMW engineers can easily fit these cars with active exhausts to muted them at lower speeds and go 12C/M600 bonkers at higher.
![]() 07/14/2014 at 20:25 |
|
"all the biturbo V8's" was referring to those in the latest group of twin turbo V8's built by Audi, Mercedes and BMW. Compared to their high revving predecessors, they are muted.
Engines in $250k+ supercars was never relevant to the context of this conversation.

I find that sport cars need sacrifices. None the less, i wouldn't be suprised if i owned an M4 down the line. Though I'd rather have the M3 because the sedan is better looking to me.
Yes, i like BDSM.
